QUALITY ASSURANCE ABSTRACTOR

Quality and Performance Improvement

The Abstractor reviews and analyzes inpatient and outpatient records to conduct abstraction and re-abstraction for required Joint Commission and CMS measures. Maintains the abstracting system in accordance with GRMC and vendor protocol. Reviews and analyzes the abstracted data. Runs reports to ensure data quality abstraction. Conducts revalidation reviews quarterly. Effectively coordinates scheduled daily activities to ensure meeting productivity standards and completing work. In the spirit of a team approach to the provision of services, adapts to changes in the work environment and workload, making necessary adjustments to support co-workers and promote equity in work assignments.

High school diploma or equivalent plus 3-12 month training program in abstracting or a related field. Licensed Practical Nurse. Maryland Board of Nursing or WV multi-state license holder required.

MATERIALS MANAGEMENT TECHNICIAN

General Stores

The Materials Technician is responsible for receipt, storing, stocking and distribution of all materials delivered to the Materials Management  Department by various vendors. Serves as customer representative in adjusting stock levels, adding/deleting products from cart and requisition work sheets. Must be able to lift up to and over 50 pounds on a routine basis.

High school graduate or equivalent required.  Heavy lifting required.  CPR required.

NURSE PRACTITIONER

Pain Clinic

Under the general guidance of the Medical Director of the Pain Clinic, the Nurse Practitioner will implement a treatment plan for the patient based on presenting symptoms and chronic conditions. The Nurse Practitioner will evaluate, diagnose, and deliver of plan of care and evaluation for these patients on an individual basis. The Nurse Practitioner will perform a thorough assessment, evaluation and treatment of patients presenting with chronic conditions. The Nurse Practitioner will follow up with patients for refills and testing. Consultation with the Medical Director will be obtained when needed by the Nurse Practitioner. The Nurse Practitioner will arrange for follow up care for patients and their families presenting to the Pain Clinic.

Master of Science degree in a Nurse Practitioner Program from a NLN accredited graduate program. BLS required and ACLS preferred.  Licensed to practice in Maryland. Certification as an Adult, Acute Care or Family Nurse Practitioner. Maintain unrestricted licensure/certification to practice medicine per state guidelines. Maintain Board Certification, DEA Certification, and CDS Certification.

CODER/FORMS COORDINATOR

Health Information Management Department

The Coder/Forms Coordinator position will include responsibilities in the following: coding, forms coordination, and scanning and archiving.

The purpose of coder is coding support in code reporting, communication with departments and referring physician offices, abstracting accounts, and assigning accurate ICD and CPT codes onto patient records according to established guidelines. Account types include outpatient accounts of Clinicals, Diagnostics, POV (mobile labs drawn from other offices and facilities), Recurring, Referred, and/or Emergency Department accounts. Coder/HIM Scanning and Archiving Technician reviews clinical documentation and clinical results to support assignment of ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes and CPT-4 outpatient procedure codes for hospital reimbursement, medical necessity, mortality and morbidity outcomes, governmental compliance, research, statistics, and regulatory compliance. This position will include assistance to report, transmit, and verify transmissions to Maryland Health Services Cost Review Commission (HSCRC). Coder may perform coding audits for quality checks and reviews for Patient Financial Services. Coder may perform physician education and perform other duties as assigned.

The purpose of forms coordination is to oversee the development and maintenance for all forms within GRMC. This includes updating forms, creating new forms as needed for regulatory and compliance issues, expanding the current Interlace Health program to other areas of the hospital and working with the Forms Committee to present new and updated forms for review and approval. This position will serve as the point of contact for physician practice offices for processing of operating room consents and other documents created and maintained here at GRMC. This position will ensure that all forms meet the GRMC standards and follow guidelines related to Joint Commission, legal, HIPPA, and other regulatory formats.

The purpose of scanning/archiving technician is to assure all paper records are located, prepared, index, and scanned into the electronic medical record system. Performance of quality check is performed to analyze the quality of scanned documents according to hospital procedure. Demonstration of knowledge of medial record format and content for all patient records is required as is ability to review records and verify patient information.

Additional work may be included as necessary to assist in fulfilling the Health Information Management department functions.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Education

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent
  • Must successfully complete an approved coding program OR
  • Must be a graduate of a Health Information Management program

Minimum Work Experience

  • One year coding experience preferred

Required License/Certification

  • Coding Certificate
  • Must be certified within 1 year of hire through the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) CCA, CCS-P, CCS, RHIT, or RHIA OR
  • Must be certified within 1 year of hire through the American Association of Procedural Coders (AAPC) CPC, CPC-A, CPC-H, CPC-H-A

COLLECTION SPECIALIST

Patient Financial Services Department

The Patient Financial Services Collections Specialist – will be goal-oriented, revenue driven, highly accurate and motivated representative. Primary duties include, but are not limited to coordinating all financial aspects of patient accounts relative to all services for which the hospital bills. One of the primary goals of this position is to perform timely handling of self-pay insurance account collections, working with insurance companies on denials and appeals, diligently working Accounts Receivable and always displaying excellent customer service. Secondary duties include but are not limited to interact with other departments to ensure correct processing of inpatient and outpatient claims. Insurance collectors and self-pay collectors will be cross trained as backups for each other.

High school diploma or equivalent. Prefer Associates degree however, two years of experience in lieu of education may also be considered. Verbal communication skills and etiquette a must to effectively interact with staff, insurance companies and patients. Approximately 1 year related work experience required.

MEDICAL SCRIBE/ASSISTANT

Integrative Pain Management

The Medical Scribe/Assistant is responsible to assist the physician of the Integrative Pain Management Center at Garrett Regional Medical Center and Potomac Valley Hospital. Responsibilities include the ability to accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as they are performed which will include, but not limited to medical history, exam, assessments, treatment, prescriptions, physician diagnosis, and instructions. Knowledge of the clinic operations will be needed to assist with increasing the efficiency and productivity of the physician. Duties will include performing clerical and information technology functions in several EMRs for the physician to update information, monitor lab results, medications, assessments, and scales. Communicating results to physician for appropriate actions to be taken and assisting with education/information provided to patients. Charting and assembling the charts with requested documentations from referring agencies, primary care providers, imaging centers, laboratories, and CRISP to assist physician and ensure information is available for treatment plan. Collecting data and presentation of results for reporting, tracking and analyzing will be assigned. Duties may include interviewing patients, assisting with appointment scheduling, outpatient pre-authorization and insurance verifications, obtaining consents, preparing letters, faxing, copying, and phone call to assist with clinic workflow.

High school diploma or equivalent. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and pharmacology for accurate transcribing. Ability to type words and numbers quickly and accurately. Ability to summarize complex medical information clearly and concisely. Ability to operate in various medical records and programs. Display of professionalism and compliance with hospital policies including those related to HIPPA.

ADMISSIONS REPRESENTATIVE

Patient Care Access 

The Admissions Representative accurately obtains all demographic and payer information needed to produce a patient record. Handles switchboard and paging functions for the hospital. Accepts payments, writes receipts and prepares daily deposit accurately. Performs outpatient pre-authorizations/ insurance verifications as required and informs patients about financial liabilities. Requests appropriate co-pay and deductible amount at time of registration. Responds accurately to Caring Program or payment plan inquiries.

High School Diploma or equivalent with training or experience in general clerical functions. CPR required, but can be obtained within six months in position.

RECEPTIONIST

Garrett Family Medicine- Specialty Physicians of Garrett County, LLC

The receptionist is responsible to attend the front desk, greet and check patients in and out, obtain current copy of insurance cards, collect appropriate copays from patients and documents on deposit tickets, enter patient data in eClinical works, answers phones, schedules appointments, reminds patients of appointments, communicate with insurance companies and physician offices for referrals and authorizations, attend fax machine & distribute appropriately, filing, transfer patient records, requisition supplies, equipment and services as directed

Laboratory

Performs standard tests, obtains and prepares specimens for testing, determines and evaluates results,  records and reports test results, performs quality control procedures, performs routine maintenance on equipment according to established policies and procedures. Functions in all areas of the laboratory.

AA Degree in Medical Technology required. BA/BS Degree in Medical Technology preferred. MT (ASCP or equivalent) or equivalent required.

EMERGENCY ROOM TECHNICIAN

Emergency Room

Under the supervision of the physicians and/or Registered Nurse, the Emergency Department Technician performs various patient care activities necessary in providing for the personal needs and comfort of patient. They assist licensed personnel as assigned.  In addition, the E.D. Technician performs clerical duties including order entry, supply billing, and answering phones throughout each shift.

High school or equivalent plus 3-12 month training program required. Training as CNA, MA, or EMS preferred.

RADIOLOGY TECHNOLOGIST

Radiology

The Radiology Technologist operates radiographic/CT equipment to perform diagnostic x-ray and basic CT examinations as directed by physicians according to established standards and practices. Exercises professional judgement and attitude in performance of services and provides appropriate patient care. May act as a preceptor for Radiologic Technology students from Radiology programs that use GRMC as a clinical site.

High School Diploma or equivalent plus 13-24 months training program required.  ARRT certification and Maryland State Radiographer license required. CPR required.

Applicant must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing with current license in Maryland or Multi-State licensure. ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES ASSOCIATE

Housekeeping Department

Cleans walls, lights, fixtures, and furniture in all assigned areas of Off-Site Offices and the hospital to maintain as aseptic environment and prevent healthcare-associated infection, using standard cleaning procedures and chemicals. Cleans, waxes, extracts, and maintains floors, carpeting, and stairwells and assists with heavy cleaning throughout the hospital.

High School diploma or equivalent preferred but not required. Must have reading, writing and math skills adequate to work independently to perform duties in a safe, competent manner.  Previous related experience of at least 3 months preferred.

SURGICAL TECHNICIAN

Surgical Services

The Operating Room Technician, under the direction of the Surgeon or RN, performs technical skills and provides assistance to surgeons, anesthesia personnel, registered nurses, and other professionals in the operating room.  Performs similar duties in other areas of the hospital as assigned.

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Medical Terminology and Anatomy coursework required or willing to obtain within one year of employment. Graduate from an accredited school of surgical technology preferred.  Surgical Technician Certification preferred.  Approximately one year of related work experience required.  Individual will be ineligible to transfer from the department for a period of two years.

CRISIS COUNSELOR

The Nurse Practitioner will perform minor procedures in the Emergency Department as outlined in their delineation agreement. The Nurse Practitioner will arrange for follow up care for patients and their families presenting to the Emergency Department. The Nurse Practitioner will care for patients of all ages from infancy to elderly.

Master of Science degree in a Nurse Practitioner Program from a NLN accredited graduate program. BLS, ACLS, PALS certification required.  Licensed to practice in Maryland. ANESTHESIOLOGIST

The Anesthesiologist has a varied caseload including orthopedics, general, ophthalmology, pediatrics, obstetrics, GYN, urology, and vascular. Must be proficient in regional and blocks. Supervision of five CRNA’s and assistance with regulatory standards required.
