During GRMC’s annual employee recognition ceremony, Angie Kave, RN was named the hospital’s “Employee of the Year.”
“I cannot think of a more deserving employee to receive this honor than Angie Kave, who truly embodies our mission to treat each patient like family,” said Mark Boucot, GRMC President and CEO. “Angie was selected by her peers not only once, but twice as the Employee of the Month during 2018. Her colleagues recognized her willingness to go above and beyond to help her teammates and provide exceptional, compassionate care for our patients.”
Ms. Kave was nominated for “Employee of the Year” by a fellow employee who was spending time in the med-surgical unit with her grandfather, who was unfortunately in the last few hours of his life. Angie Kavestayed after her Registered Nurse shift ended to continue to provide comfort and support to this individual as her grandfather passed. The nomination stated, “Angie is an amazing person and I know God sent her to be there like an angel watching over us. Death is a hard part of life and I made it through with her support.”
Ms. Kave has been an employee of GRMC for ten years and works in the med-surgery unit, which handles general admissions and post-surgical patients. She graduated nursing school at Allegany College. A resident of Oakland, she enjoys church, family activities and spending time with her grandchildren.
The “Employee of the Year” program was created by the Employee Engagement Council, whose membership is comprised of GRMC’s frontline staff. Each month, any employee can nominate a fellow teammate for employee of the month and the nominations are voted on at the monthly council meetings. The Employee Engagement Council is part of GRMC’s shared governance management model, where staff members provide ideas, expertise and feedback for various hospital programs, policies and procedures.
