As part of its growing regional partnership with WVU Medicine, Garrett Regional Medical Center (GRMC) is opening a Dermatology Clinic on its campus in Oakland that will provide comprehensive dermatological care for people of all ages. The clinic is scheduled to begin seeing patients in early May.
“We’re dedicated to broadening access to care in our service area,” said Kendra Thayer, GRMC’s Senior Vice President of Patient Services and Chief Nursing Officer. “The comprehensive services provided coupled with the expertise offered by an academic medical center will be one of the many strategic advantages of this new clinical offering at GRMC. Patients will gain greater access to the most advanced care, including medical technologies and state-of-the-art diagnostic procedures.”
Seeing patients onsite at the clinic will be Dr. Roxann Powers and Dr. Omid Jalali, both of WVU Medicine Ruby Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Roxann Powers, MD, FACP, is a Board Certified Dermatologist and internal medicine physician. She is a graduate of the WVU School of Medicine. Dr. Omid Jalali, MD, also a graduate of WVU Medicine, is a Board Certified Dermatologist with a clinical focus in microdermabrasion and psoriasis.
In addition to the services available onsite at GRMC, patients diagnosed with skin cancer will have access to Mohs surgery at WVU Medicine. Mohs is one of the most effective skin cancer treatments available. In this specialized procedure, a surgeon removes cancerous skin in thin layers while concurrently examining the tissue microscopically for remaining traces of cancer. Patients will be referred to WVU’s facility in Morgantown for this specialized treatment.
“Launching the dermatology clinic at Garrett Regional Medical Center continues WVU Medicine’s growing partnership and commitment to serve Western Maryland and our surrounding communities,” noted GRMC President and CEO Mark Boucot. “We’re excited to continue to offer more specialty care to meet the health care needs of our community.”
Patients wishing to schedule an appointment with either Dr. Powers or Dr. Jalali at the new GRMC Dermatology Clinic should call 1-855-988-2273.
