In conjunction with National Hospital Week at Garrett Regional Medical Center, Jackie Funkhouser, RN, received the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses®.
“Jackie represents the very best of an incredible and caring team within our Family Centered Maternity Unit. She was nominated by an obstetrics patient for demonstrating attentive care and going the extra mile to help put the patient at ease throughout her entire birthing experience,” said Kendra Thayer, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Officer at GRMC. “I am thrilled to recognize Jackie for her commitment to our mission of striving to treat each patient like family.”
According to the nomination, Mrs. Funkhouser shared a high level of knowledge, patience and guidance with the patient during the labor and delivery of her son at GRMC’s Family Centered Maternity Suite. The patient was grateful for the wonderful care she received by the entire staff during her stay. The nomination closed with the patient sharing that she felt that she had made a friend in Jackie by the time she left to go home from the hospital with her newborn.
The DAISY Award program, launched in 2018 at GRMC, was created by the Daisy Foundation with the mission of recognizing the extraordinary, compassionate care that nurses provide patients and families every day. More than 2,000 health care organizations nationally participate in the award program. A selection committee comprised of GRMC nurses reviews the nominees through a blind selection process and scores each nominee based upon a scoring rubric sanctioned by the Daisy Foundation.
Jackie Funkhouser is a registered nurse and graduate of Allegany College of Maryland. She has worked at GRMC for 13 years and currently works within the Family Centered Maternity Unit. Jackie resides in Oakland with her husband Jack and they have three sons, Allen, Johnny and Wyatt.
GRMC recognizes a DAISY recipient on a quarterly basis. Nurses may be nominated by patients, patient families, or colleagues. Forms are available on GRMC’s website at https://www.grmc-wvumedicine.org.
