Grantsville Medical Center launches child immunization program during National Immunization Awareness Month
Continuing Grantsville Medical Center’s commitment to provide care to all ages, the center now offers a full schedule of vaccines for infants and children.
“In an effort to better serve children and families in our community, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to participate in Maryland’s Vaccines for Children Program,” said Dr. Daniel J. Crable, Medical Director of Grantsville Medical Center. “The launch of the children’s vaccine program is very complementary to our current pediatric services that include sports physicals and well child checks that span from infancy to adolescents.”
The Maryland Vaccines for Children program includes the 14-disease vaccination panel recommended for ages zero to six. The program is covered by Maryland Medicaid plans.
Along with the new program, Grantsville Medical Center also offers vaccinations recommended for individuals throughout their lifespan as publicized during National Immunization Awareness Month. For young adults and adolescents, the CDC recommends meningitis, HPV and tetanus vaccinations. Whooping cough and tetanus vaccines are recommended for pregnant women. The CDC also advises that adults over age 50 receive the shingles vaccination and those over 65 should receive pneumonia vaccines.
“With last year being a particularly bad flu season, it is never too early to get the word out on the importance of getting an annual flu shot,’ added Dr. Crable. “Annual flu vaccinations are recommended for children and all adults and we typically start flu season vaccinations in the early fall.”
